Queen Elena Says...

Last week we worked on our tall tales. We wrote an exaggerated story that was made up.Then we laminate it and share our story. We also did a Halloween themed art activity. We had to draw something that has to do with Halloween. When we are finished decorating it we then color it in.

King Ryan says...

This week we went to the hike and it was fun and we did our tall tale.

Our Trip to DIPAC

Monday we had the opportunity of going to DIPAC with all of the 5th grade. This was a culmination to our salmon unit this year. It was fabulous! The students were able to see the salmon coming up the ladder to spawn, touch sea creatures in the touch tank and do an experiment. The kids were able to get in groups and use the scientific method. The experiment was on what animals in the tank were going to eat what during the feeding.
1. They had to predict
2. Next they observed
This was the coolest part! Especially with the super hungry fish in the large fish tank!!!
3. Last we came back as a group to share.
Our guide Rich was really interesting and helpful.
*Thank you Mrs. Bryson for being our photographer and helping corral the troops :)

Officer Jason Van Sickle is back this year at MRCS and we are so excited to have him. He was raised in Juneau, AK and has been an officer for the past 16 years. He has four children, 1 in the 5th grade...so he is very familiar with our silly kiddos!!!
Allen is in-charge of decorating our DARE question bucket. We can't wait to see how he decorates it! We will be meeting on Wednesdays at 1:15-2:00 until February when we will have our DARE graduation ceremony at Centennial Hall.

Discovery Southeast Hike

The hike today was about the 5 stages of succession;
1. pioneer stage
2. tall shrub stage
3. young forest
4. mature forest
5. old growth or climax forest
The students started the day with a succession stage game then off to hike Dredge Lake trails. What a perfect day for an adventure.
Miss Rebecca and Miss Kate were wonderful instructors but I could not have done it without my fabulous parent volunteers. Thanks again Beth, Brenda and Genevieve!!
It was a perfect afternoon!
